The Els for Autism Foundation’s Blog contribution is provided by our an Els for Autism Foundation staff member, Merrick Egber, who is on the autism spectrum.
His writings provide a unique perspective of autism through his experience.
I’ve been a writer for 15 years. My High School years were very trans-formative years for me. I got addicted to The Beatles, addicted to my own sense of depression and addicted to proving myself as more than just a student, and as such I was able to channel all of these forces into writing song lyrics with my own sense of style and vision. Currently I am a recent college graduate who lives in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and I hope that I can continue my dream of a lucrative lifestyle through the things I write.
The Els for Autism Foundation was established in 2009 by PGA TOUR golfer Ernie Els and his wife Liezl (residents of Jupiter, FL) shortly after their son Ben (now 12) was diagnosed with autism.
The Foundation’s overarching mission is to helping people on the autism spectrum fulfill their potential to lead positive, productive and rewarding lives.
In the U.S., to help fulfill its mission Els for Autism is currently building a state-of-the-art Center of Excellence in Jupiter, FL, with a local, national and global reach and is in the middle of a capital campaign to finance the development.
In addition, the Foundation recently introduced Ernie Els #GameON Autism™ Golf, an initiative focused on using golf as a life skills development tool. #GameON Autism Golf clinics have been hosted at courses across the U.S. and most recently South Africa and Canada. The Foundation has plans to roll-out #GameON Autism Golf as a comprehensive program across the U.S. and internationally.
